    - vs2005 pro - creating new c# or vb projects fail - "requested registry access is not allowed" I have installed visual studio 2005 pro on vista ultimate 32 bit, under the administrator account. I installed the service pack, as well as the update for vista systems. I then rebooted, and tried out the install - vs starts fine, but trying to create a new project in vb or c# (i have these installed only along with asp) will fail bringing up a dialog box "requested registry access is not allowed" both in the admin account, and my account which has admin privilideges, as well as UAC disabled. I can open up existing projects and compile them as well, but i just can't create new ones.     - Mad with IIS 7.0 Hi folks, IIS 7.0 running on Vista Home Premium shows up the weird messages: I cannot access http://localhost when started from a browser. But it starts smoothly when run from VS 2005. A PHP application I built using Adobe Dreamweaver throws up an exception message: Error 503: Service unavailable but the web site runs under VS 2005. What is going on I thought it was a problem with the Default Application Pool (DefAppPool) but it seems not to be the case. Please help.     - Project Creation All, Ok. I have installed VSTF 05 for a single server configuration. Everything has been verified as far as initial tests are concerned. I want to create a test project just to see how the process works. However, I want to delete the project after awhile because it's not going to be a production project.     - MSF Tracks vs. Phases Dear board members, I am a student of Business Information Technology from germany and I am currently working on my diploma thesis (equivalent to the US bachelor) about implementing an agile project management with MSF for Agile Software Development in a smaller software firm. To write this, I am working for a company, which develops and sells software for the german health care market. Although I have plenty of resources on MSF, I sometimes have unanswered questions or find controversion statements in the literature. I am actually hoping, that I could ask some of the questions here, which I don't see answered in my resources. Maybe the members here might also profit from the questions of a perspective of a young IT-worker who is about to implement MSF Agile from scratch So here are my first two questions: 1.) Concerning to the process model, the older resources like MSF whitepapers v3.1 or" MCSD self-paced training kit for exam 70-300" speak about "phases". In newer literature like "MSF Framework Essentials" or "Working with VSTS" it is often referred to "tracks". Is this just the difference between the process model and the governance model, or was there a change from phases to tracks in the newer versions of MSF Because I can't really see the point, why team members should be allowed to work on overlapping tracks, when sometimes even the milestones have not yet been reached. In my opinion every team member has to agree on the milestone, and then the next phase can be started. Has anyone a different opinion on that, or do you think MSF especially in Agile has a different advice 2.) I am always searching for good literature on the topic of MSF (in particular MSF Agile).     - Read/Write items to file ReadLinesFromFile and WriteLinesToFile are nice, but has anyone written a task which saves and retreives the metadata for items as well I've got some complex dependencies where a number of data files are used to generate a target file. Those files can come from various locations, depending on a whole lot of things and in order to avoid large rebuilds, I intend to track the inputs for each target in a file and if the stored dependencies from the last build doesn't match the newly calculated ones, the file is being rebuilt, regardless of dates. All the dependency magic is working fine, however I need some of the metadata from the original items, saved to the file, to be able to reconstruct the file hierarchy properly.     - Build Testing Hi. I seem to having an issue with running the unit tests on the build server and I'm not quite sure why. I've spent a few hours searching for an answer but can't seem to find anything. I thought it might have been because of the delay signed projects, but after I removed the delay signing, I still get the same error.     - Creating WorkItemStore Nuttiness. Hi All, I have a bit of 'n weird problem, atleast, to me it is. I am attempting to create a WSS web part that displays a customized report regarding builds based on some parameters. Not brain surgery. So, being a good developer, I abstracted the code that interfaces with TFS into an assembly. Then to test whether the assembly is working, I created a Windows application to test it. No problem so far. Then I created an assembly for the webpart, which references the firt mentioned TFS interface assembly. I deployed my web part and everything work, accept when I try and create a WorkItemStore instance. AARRGHH. So close, and yet... The error I get is the grossly undescriptive: Cannot complete the operation. An unexpected error occurred. (I'll paste the whole error at the bottom) Here's what I've tried so far: I copied the win test app to the server where the web part is deployed and executed (on 2 different users) it. No problems. Worked like a charm I changed the my to 3 different variations: Initially I attempted to get work items like so: changeSet.WorkItems (Change was retrieved from BuildStore) Attempted to instantiate the Workstore directly (tried with tfs instance AND server name): WorkItemStore wis = new WorkItemStore(tfs) Attempted to request the service from TFS: WorkItemStore wis = tfs.GetService(typeof(WorkItemStore)) as WorkItemStore Each time I get the same problem. Again, it works perfectly from a windows app, but from WSS it fails! I checked the user identity at the point of call, and it is correct (the user logged on) and the same as for the windows app. So I don't think it's security. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.     - Delete, modify /rename TFS Projects I am planning to delete a project and move the existing data to a new project. Since we need to create projects based on their ID's but not using their names (sensitivity issue when we gave access to our external collaboraters), am worried if I am going to loose history of the old project. Also, at MSDN, under delete a tfs project section, it says " When you run TFSDeleteProject , the system places the source control data in a deleted state in the operational store. It does not actually remove the data from the database, nor does it reclaim the disk space.     - Publish a Windows Application using MSBuild I have a windows application which has 5 projects in it. On the post build event all the exes from these projects are copied to the $(Solutions)\Temp directory. The temp directory also has a directory called Hello which will hold a set of dlls from one of the 5 projects. 1. I would like to package this $(SolutionDir)\Temp folder into the setup project when I do "msbuild /target ublish". How can I do that 2. If this is not possible how can I package the contents of the bin\Debug\ folder (having a folder named Hello) into the setup, so that when I install the application the folder having all my exe on the installed computer also has the Hello folder in it. Is there another way to do this 3. I have successfully created a directory called Hello in my \bin\Debug folder in the main project's post build event(I remove it every time in the pre-build event).
