    - Multiple inserts in a single transaction Hello All, I have an application where i am doing multiple inserts inside a single transaction. Now to do this I have typically two options. One of them is to start a transaction from my application, use a loop and do inserts one by one and commit it once the last insert is done. This seems good but involves constant round trip from my application server to my database server. Other drawback is that if my applications fails (for instance there is a power failure at client) that there will be waiting involved for other queries as inserts hold exclusive locks. The other approach is to write a stored procedure which takes xml as input. Now my application will send an xml file this SP and inside the SP using a cursor i will loop through and do the insert inside a single transaction. Currently following the first strategy, would like to know whether the second strategy make sense and is better than the first one. Thanks in advance :) Tag: Reporting Services printer problem

    - BIDS keeps hanging when opening SSIS packages BIDS hangs when I open any SSIS packages. "Microsoft Visual Studio Is Busy" message displays in the system tray. It indicates that Microsoft Visual Studio is waiting for an internal operation to complete; however, it never seems to complete. I have recycled the server hoping to break it loose, however nothing seems to free it up. I have not had this situation before and I cannot figure out why it is having problems. BIDS shows it is "Validating Data Flow Task". Has anyone encountered this problem before Would it be a true statement that whenever you use BIDS to alter a SSIS package the source has to be available because verification and validation is always done on the source and destination If the source were not available could that cause the hang in BIDS Tag: Reporting Services printer problem

    - AS 2000 - problem with aggregating converted measures over years with different currency rates We have cubes based on fact tables containing "converted" measure columns, which are null in the table and are then calculated on the fly using calculated cells which use the LookUpCube function to pick up the relevant currency rate from a separate currency cube. This allows users to choose different currency conversion rates in the front end application (ProClarity). The rate depends on the year and so the shared dimensions betweent the lookupcube and the other cubes are the dimension containing the currency rates and the year dimension. My problem is that normally the year is always specified, but if it is not and the All Year level is selected, then Analysis Services 2000 sums up all the currency rates and applies the total to the sum of the measure, which produces an incorrect result. For now I have had to remove the all year member, but is there any way of making AS do the calculation year by year at the appropriate currency rate and then add it up, to give an accurate conversion over all years Tag: Reporting Services printer problem

    - Reporting Services Configuring Default Error Messages I have searched the web and have not had any luck on finding the issue to my problem. I'm sure it's probably simple, so here it goes. When receiving the following error "The permissions granted to user '' are insufficient for performing this operation" Now, I would like to add to the error message shown above an extra line below it on the web page to reflect something like "Please contact XXX @ XXX if you feel that you need to have your login issue resolved" ...or something meaningful in addition to the default error messages. I am not getting this error normally, as I have made a typo when login in on purpose! I am just trying to find a way to add more detail to the current error message or change the message to what I want it to say. This would go for any error message received by an end user received through SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services. Do I have to create some sort of filter to read the message coming back from within SOAP Are these messages stored in ReportingServices database or htm file Thanks!     - selecting top 20 and the rest Hi, I have a select command that returns an ID and an amount. I want to display the top 5 amounts in descending order and then the rest of them as one sum.     - Month/Year comparison against a date Hi, Is there a way to get the last day of a month, given a date in a datetime variable I have a stored procedure that accepts a datetime parameter. I need to find the last day of the month for that parameter value. For example, if the stored procedure is passed the datetime value, '6/13/2007', I need to be able to get from that '6/30/2007.' Here's the bigger picture: The sp actually takes two datetime parameters (unfortunately, I don't have access to change the user interface). The sp needs to select records between the month/years of those dates, not including the first but including the second. For example, if the user specifies the following dates: 6/7/2006 7/15/2007 the sp needs to select all records that come after 6/30/2006 and on or before 7/31/2007. I've tried this: ("ReportDate" is the name of the datetime field in a table in the sp and "@StartDate" and "@EndDate" are the datetime parameters in the sp) Month(ReportDate) > Month(@StartDate) And Year(ReportDate) >= Year(@StartDate) And Month(ReportDate) <= Month(@EndDate) And Year(ReportDate) <= Year(@EndDate) But this returns fewer records than when I enter 6/30/2006 and 7/31/2007 as the parameters and just compare dates like this: ReportDate > @StartDate And ReportDate <= @EndDate Thank you.     - VB6 RDO error I've been given a legacy app that I have to change to point to a Sequel 2005 database (from a sequel 6.5 database). The app falls over when trying to execute a stored proc. The message I get is: Run-time error '40041': Object collection: Couldn't find item indicated by text The above message is displayed when the following line is executed: qryStoredProc(0).Direction = rdParamReturnValue I have reinstalled service pack 6 for vb6 but this hasn't made any difference. Unfortunately due to build difficulties I can't point to the existing sequel 6.5 database from the machine that is pointing to sequel 2005 !! I have go thougth few articles in the forum, try to open the sqlce20sql2ksp4.exe file and then run only the MSI, but still fail.     - Aggregation wizard I changed my data source tables to views which effectively reduced the number of rows being loaded into dimension to only those items that appear in the fact table. However, in the Aggregation Wizard, when I request a row count, it appears that the wizard is not looking at the view, but the original table. So I ran the import wizard, and I saved the packaged on the hard drive.     - SQL Server vs. XML Configurations I have been experimenting with both XML and SQL Server Configurations. Management would really like to go with the SQL Server Configurations, but I seem to be having problems with them. The main goal is to be able to create a configuration for each connection and have every package refer to its specific configuration, therefore in the future we could change say our SA password and only have to update this in a few places rather than for every package. In order to experiment with the problem I am having I developed 2 identical packages, except one uses SQL Server Configurations and the other uses XML. The configurations save the exact same properties. With the XML package I can go into the configuration file and change say the password and initial catalogue properties and have these changes go into effect. With the SQL Server package these changes do not seem to take place. So I guess what seems to be happening is with the XML package the connectionstring seems to be generated with the other properties that have been saved in the configuration, but in the SQL Server package none of this seems to take place and the connectionstring just stays exactly as it is saved in the configuration file. I was wondering if I just seem to be missing something or if anybody else has experienced this problem and found a solution. Any help is much appreciated, Sam Tag: Reporting Services printer problem

    - Datasource Views and Teradata I'm trying to to use SSAS 05 w/ our Teradata warehouse (VERSION 05.01.02.70 RELEASE V2R.05.01.02.40) and I'm having a problem creating datasource views. My issue is that the wizard returns every view and table in the warehouse (tens of thousands) which takes over 10 minutes . I can't seem to limit it to only the database I'm intersted in using. I've tried using the restrict schema option but then no objects are returned. Any ideas on how to do this Can you create the datasource views without the wizard Thanks.     - Understanding code created by SSIS import/export Wizard I built a packaage in SSIS with the import/export utility. It created a Package.dtsx and Package1.dtsx. Both of these files seem to be XML files. I want to understand how these files work. For example, in the package I built I had about 80 tables exporting and importing data. Some of them I want to allow the identiy insert and delete the rows first. Others I want to append the data. How can I find the code or settings that does this Or where can I find the options on the gui interface to change these settings. I have a windows NT service, which prints to a laser printer programmatically using MSRS 2K. It works fine with a HP printer however when I try printing to a Lexmark Printer it does not always print. Somebody help. Microsoft please release a latest patch for MSRS 2K, its been so long since we had one.

I am using a web service that is running on a Windows 2000 server on local area network alongwith a printer, as such there is no error.
