    - Problem in Configuring ASPState DB for .NET 2.0 Hi, In the current production environment we have web applications running in asp.net 1.1 (win 2003 server) which uses ASPState DB for the session management. We are in the process of migrating few of the web application in asp.net 2.0. We would like to use the same ASPState DB for both 1.1 and 2.0 applications for maintaining the session. Problem that we are facing: After going through couple of article for configuring the ASPState DB, We ran the InstallPersistSqlState.sql of .net 2.0 framework (log information is given below). Though the sql has updated the existing ASPState DB with the stored procedure corresponding to asp.net 2.0, still we get the following error Exception: System.Web.HttpException Message: Unable to use SQL Server because ASP.NET version 2.0 Session State is not installed on the SQL server. Please install ASP.NET Session State SQL Server version 2.0 or above. For certain reasons, we are not able to use aspnetreg_sql.exe for setting up the ASPState database. Is there something that I am missing when I run InstallPersistSqlState.sql alone. Appreciate your help.     - Restoring Differentials from 2000 to 2005 From what I understand is that you want to have a reporting database that is an exact copy of your production database so the reports will not impact the performance of the production server. If this is the case, since you can't do log shipping (My reccommended choice in this scenario) between versions (That I am aware of anyway), my second choice would be to set up replication. This can be done between 2000 & 2005 and will provide for almot real-time data synchronization. If, for some reason, you can't use replication, such as very complex transformations to the data, the next choice would be a tool like SSIS. You copy all of the data to the report server 1 time, then every hour, you run an SSIS package that copies only the changed data to the reporting database.     - SQL Express database in published web site I have been working with Visual Studio 2005 and the Personal Web Site Starter Kit. All is well and working. My problem is that after the database is updated (as in uploading photos and album creation) and the original web site is edited and republished, the web site database is overwritten and all the work is lost. What is the proceedure to either copy the web database to the development site on my computer so updates will not be lost, or a method of publishing that will not loose the up to date content on the web server I would much prefer to be able to copy the database to my development computer as adding tables to the database is something that needs to be done. When I do an Execute Task, I get the following error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER.     - Join on subquery with distinct? The optimiser will expand out queries like the first one. Just one of those annoying things about it. You could improve the speed by putting changing it to "select top (999999) distinct col1, col2, col3 from myView", because that will force the server to materialise the table first. Any number will do, so long as it's larger than the number of rows you expect to get out (otherwise you'll lose rows). One of the first components reurns a Full Result Set of IDs based on a stored procedure call. The stored procedure can return multiple rows.     - MDX question That's probably a reasonable compromise and would be relatively easy to implement. The only comment I would make is that modelling changing attributes in this matter should be the exception, not the rule. You would not want to take this to the extreme and end up with a cube that has lots of small dimensions as it increases the size of the aggregations and indexes which will reduce performance.     - Date Parameter in Reports Manager I have one master report and 4 linked reports. I deployed a report and set defaults for BeginDate and EndDate as =Today(). I have 4 linked reports that I need to change the date parameters for each. For instance the first linked reports needs to be BeginDate =Today() and the EndDate as =Today()+30. So in my linked report, I tried to change the EndDate to =Today()+30 and an error, 'The value provided for the report parameter 'BeginDate' is not valid for its type.' it's been a while since i installed sql2005, but doesn't visual studio get installed at the same time all the servers that i installed sql2005 on have visual studio on them too. the sysadmins think having VS on the servers is a security risk and want to remove it. if we remove VS from the servers, will that impact SQL Server 2005

If you have the SQL Server 2005 tools installed you can not remove Visual Studio from the server. The SQL Server 2005 tools are based on the Visual Studio IDE making it required to have the tools.
