- Page Limit? did you also see that massive memory usage when printing your 10,000 page XPS file I have tried to print 5,000-10,000 Visuals via the Visuals-batchwriter and I've got ~2gig of swapfile size and ~1gig for the process... and it got slower and slower when printing to a legacy printer... and it even "crashed" and just rebootet the pc (guess it was a BSOD because of OutOfMemory) sometimes... - Installing Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Extensions for Windows Workflow Foundation installs Windows SDK Instead Just wanted to let anyone know that had the same problem to delete the directory it extracts to before attempting to install the Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Extensions for Windows Workflow Foundation zip file. If you install Windows SDK first it will try to install or re-install the sdk instead of the Foundation tools. Not exactily something you will see right away, I thought it was included in the SDK at first since my first attempt resulted in the installation of the windows SDK. - Bind to an activity's Property Dialog Box I am new to WF but learning quick. A basic problem I am having is that when I am trying to expand the workflowProperties element in the Bind activity's property box to select workflowProperties.Item.ParentList.ParentWeb.AssociatedOwnerGroup.Users the window simply closes. There is no error and nothing is actually bound. I have searched to find someone with a similar problem but had no luck. To try and put it in more clearer terms. When I try to expand the workflowProperties list item in the bind activity's property box the window closes. It does this for other items as well (but not all). My workflow is in the very beginning stages and there is very little code. I find it weird that some of the items in the list are black and some are blue. Is this suppose to give some indication I am running Visual Studio 2005 with all the necessary WF addons. It doesn't matter if I am coding in C# or VB it happens either way. The machines were probably all created from the same image -- which may be fine depending on your licence but only if done with sysprep (image preparation tool). - TransactionScope & TSQL Transactions Mixing isolation levels is not a good practice. Imagine the ambient transaction having the isolation level set to Serializable and imagine that a new piece of code (for instance in a new library added to the project) is called under this transaction. If that new piece of code is using TransactionScope with isolation level set to ReadUncommitted, then that meant that it expects a certain level of performance and a certain level of locking. If we would allow the Serializable transaction to get in, those expectations might not be met and this behavior can lead to performance degradation and more than that, possible deadlocks. - TTF Font Installation in Vista I have recently upgraded to vista and i am dual booting. I wanted to move ttf fonts from my old xp to vista, by moving the file into the windows/font directory, but when I do this I get an error message up saying "the font < a load pof chinese writing> is not a valid font file and cannot be installed" Then i click ok and the same message pops up with a different string of chinese letters, to which I click ok again and then it stops installing. I have taken this font directly from my xp fonts directory. - Relying Party Certificate thumbprint not specified I think it has something to do with the TokenProcessor.cs class. I've added it to the App_Code folder in my web project, but when it tries to look for the relying party certificate, the string containing the thumbprint is empty. That string should be filled in this code: string rpCertificateThumbprint = System.Configuration. ConfigurationManager .AppSettings[ "CertificateThumbprint" ]; string rpStoreName = ConfigurationManager .AppSettings[ "StoreName" ]; string rpStoreLocation = ConfigurationManager .AppSettings[ "StoreLocation" ]; So I suppose that it doesn't find anything in AppSettings["CertificateThumbprint"]. In the samples that I found that use TokenProcessor.cs, there's no app.config file attached to it, so I don't know where it expects to find that thumbprint. For the identity provider it works well because in the sts project I have an app.config that specifies the thumbprint, but for the relying party (the intranet webpage), I don't know where to put it, as in the examples I haven't been able to find where those settings are stored. I understand that a domain controller is an authenticator and not a server one logs into it. - Sound Problem Same situation here, but even more dire. I have Creative Audigy 2 ZS Notebook. After upgrading to Vista Business, I had sound. However, when I started up my laptop the second time, my laptop recognizes the sound card as a "phantom component". IT DOESN'T SHOW THE CARD AS INSTALLED!!! Weird thing is, D#ll had it intergrated in the laptop. If the new upcoming driver doesn't work, I might roll back to XP Pro. If push comes to shove, ya might have to do that too. Peace! Is that correct You can render the ink to a bitmap in memory and save that to byte array representing the desired image format (jpg, png, etc.). You could store this alongside with the byte array for ISF (which you will still need for roundtrip purposes). "The FreeCoTaskMem(pDib) call inside the try block is unecessary since you're calling it again in the finally block" Sorry that was simply a remnant of moving the dealocation around, the point was that the call to FreeCoTaskMem in the try block throws an exception, I simply moved it forward from the finally block to test that and left it in my pasted code. " Good thing Vista errors since it exposes bugs in your code" you are totally correct, the intptr.size is sloppy, guess I must have been thinking 32, 64 (perhaps I was drinking and coding that night!) the worst thing is that has been running seemingly well, and most certainly un detected on XP systems for a long, long while now, and I guess that within that light the tighter sensitivity and control on Vista can only be a good thing. - Application won't elevate with manifest It works now I applied a clean Windows Vista install and recompiled the install to include the manifest. I am now prompted for an administrator password. Looks like it was a cache issue. Unfortunately I haven't found a way to embed the manifest. The application is written and compiled in VisualBasic 6.0 and I can't find a way to embed it a manifest. - InkCanvas selection adorner Hi Boris, it is actually easier than that. You can re-use the existing lasso functionality of the InkCanvasEditingMode.Select mode. Then, in the SelectionChanged event, you can get a reference to the selected strokes (and/or elements). Now clear the selection (to get rid of the standard adorner) and then bring up your custom adorner. I have put together a sample app that demonstrates this with a simple, custom adorner that allows rotation of selected ink. As you know, DirectSoundCapture buffer can capture the audio stream through the selected mixer line. For example, If "Mic-in" is selected, DirectSoundCapture buffer will capture the audio comes through Mic.-in line. And if "Line-in" is selected, it will capture the audio stream through Lini-in line. Yes, I know this should continue to work on Vista. However, as the title of this thread saying, I could not find the way to record the audio stream on 'Wave' or 'Stereo Mix' line on Vista Actually, "Line-in" and "Mic-in" are real external "ENDPOINT devices" but 'Wave' or 'Stereo Mix' line are NOT. Actually, on XP or earlier versino of Windows, I could select 'Wave' or 'Stereo Mix' line through ::mixerXXXX() APIs. For example, I used ::mixerGetLineInfo(...) API to get MIXERLINE structure. And if the "dwComponentType" member of MIXERLINE structure is MIXERLINE_COMPONENTTYPE_DST_WAVEIN, then I used ::mixerGetLineControls(...) API to get MIXERCONTROL structure. And if the "dwControlType" member of MIXERCONTROL structure is MIXERCONTROL_CONTROLTYPE_MUX, I could select the wanted record source line (i.e., 'Wave' or 'Stereo Mix') by using ::mixerGetControlDetails(...) or ::mixerSetControlDetails(...) APIs. However, the above way using ::mixerXXX APIs makes empty record source line list on Vista. So, as I said, I wrote new code using "Device Topology API" and I could get IAudioInputSelector interface from Mux subunit part. However, this interface also did not give me a solution. IAudioInputSelector interface did not show 'Wave' or 'Stereo Mix' line but it shows only the endpoint devices. Ok, to make a long story to short, the problem is... although DirectSoundCapture buffer can capture the audio stream through the selected record source line, there's no way to select 'Wave' or 'Stereo Mix' record source line which are not real external "endpoint devices" on Vista. [WASAPI has a special Loopback mode that allows a client to capture the post-mix audio stream, that may help as well.] Ok, I'll try writing new code using WASAPI as you said. However, before doing that, could you please confirm that I could capture the audio stream (PCM data) with this API, although there's no 'Wave' or 'Stereo Mix' line in the parts of Device Topologies ( When I first re-wrote the code using 'Device Topology API' for selecting 'Wave' or 'Stereo Mix' record source line on Vista for myself, I though there's no need to change DirectSoundCapture code but I need change only the record line selection code for Vista. However, I failed as I explained. So, if I should use WASAPI instead using 'DirectSoundCapture'+'Device Topologies API', I'd like to get confirmation from you that WASAPI will really sort out my problem or not.) I think the same set of questions applies to signature. Actually in samples, the IP has the RP key to encrypt the signature. No such luck on my side. It's in Administrative Tools in XP. Do you have to install the .NET Framework SDK on Vista in order to get it Vista comes with .NET 2.0 and .NET 3.0 which has the WPF components. If its there could you be a little more specific Thanks!

I don't believe so, I think it should be installed by default, but I don't think it has a Start menu entry. If searching for it using the start menu search box doesn't work, you could always access it the long way:
Run mmc.exe (the management console)
Go to File -> Add new snap-in
Add the .net framework 2.0 configuration tool

I have ran the mmc.exe but I do not have a snap-in for .net framework 2.0 configuration tool. There is no .NET snap-ins at all.

I have the same problem with my Vista PC (pre-installed with Vista Business), there is no snap-in or configuration wizard in my control panel. Any ideas

me too, cant make even a simple rename a file operation work in vs2008 oracas, getting real mad, cant find a configuratiopn thing anywhere, the one in mmc dont have a security tab as described

Same problem here, Vista Ultimate, new fresh PC with a VS2008 beta 2 install (no previous dev tools), I can't locate the .NET configuration panel.
All suggestion appreciated.
If anyone has resolved this or doesn't have the problem in the first place please post.

Guys,
You have to install the .Net Framework 2.0 SDK. You maybe uninstalled it before installing VS2008 Beta 2
